Taupo sits in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island on the shores of magnificent Lake Taupo, being our countries largest lake. The name Taupo is from the Māori language and is a shortened version of Taupo-nui-a-tia, which was given to the cliff at Paku Bay and means ‘the great cloak of Tia’ (the Māori explorer who discovered the lake). There are many stunning settings around our beautiful town that make ideal locations for celebrations or ceremonies.
